Rotations after Bye Series Empty
PostSubject: Rotations after Bye Series   Rotations after Bye Series Icon_minitimeWed Apr 08, 2009 1:45 pm

Folks, you may have noticed something new and unanticipated in our schedules this year. In what should be a 19 series season, Sportconnect has added a 20th series as a bye week. Don't know why this happened, but it is probably required becuase of our schedule format.

This causes us a bit of a problem with our rotation. Our league has a set rotation that everyone must follow that is based on our series number. If we follow that approach during our bye week, three of our pitchers will miss a turn. If we don't, our simple and obvious rotation gets all mixed up.

We have two possible choices, and I want to see what people think. THIS IS NOT A VOTE. Its not even something we have to deal with for a while because the first bye week is deep into the season. But I want to see where we are.

Are two choices are this:

OPTION A - Cubs pitch next pitcher in rotation regardless of series number

Cubs 1/2/3 ---------Cards 1/2/3
Cubs (bye week) -----Cards 4/5/1
Cubs 4/5/1 ---------Cards 2/3/1

PROS - Its logical to the real world. Prevents pitchers from missing a turn.
CONS - It can get really confusing and frustrating. Create unfair matchups. Cause difficulty in tracking rotation.

or

OPTION B - Cubs follow rotation as assigned by series number even if it means same pitcher in back to back series

Cubs 1/2/3 ---------Cards 1/2/3
Cubs (bye week) -----Cards 4/5/1
Cubs 2/3/1 ---------Cards 2/3/1

PROS - simple to follow with no confusion. If a mistake is made it is easily recognized and corrected.
CONS - Same pitchers may pitch back to back series.

As for me, my option is option B. Different rotations will be difficult to track. We are already using pitchers "back to back" when we jump in a flex series (we can end up pitching the same pitcher in two games we play in the real world). It makes the calendar more useful and give more information.

Let me know your thoughts, votes and comments. We have time to decide.

go with B, although in RL a manager can get that extra start by sitting his number 5 starter. I do this all the time in franchise trying to have the next Denny McLain.

Like I said, we still have time, but it looks obvious where this is heading.
