Ok, I cheated juuuuust a bit. When I used my system of splitting best from second best, etc., I came up with a league that was just a switch of two teams away from a National League and an American League. I thought that might be more interesting, especially with DH play, and the fact that you now have two series in your own division. Hope you enjoy.
