But the Cardinals would get back in the game in the bottom the of the 5th with a pinch hit 3 run HR by Michael Shumakker to make the score 5-3. In the top of the 8th the Tigers tacked on what would prove to be the winning run when Carlos Guillen hit a shot to right field. The Cardinals would add another run in the bottom of the 8th to make the final score 6-5.
