Things were quiet until the 3rd inning when Dustin Pedroia hit an RBI single to give the Redsox the 1-0 lead. In the 4th inning, the Redsox added two more runs with an RBI DB by J.D. Drew and an RBI single by Marco Scutaro making it 3-0 Redsox. Kevin Youkilis made it 4-0 in the 5th with an RBI DB. In the 6th inning, Jacoby Ellsbury brought in another run with an RBI sac fly to make it 5-0 Redsox. In the bottom of the 6th, the Nationals got on the board with an RBI single by Adam Kennedy to make it a 5-1 game. David Ortiz hit a solo HR in the 7th and J.D. Drew hit a solo HR in the 8th to make the score 7-1 Redsox. The Nationals would add 3 runs in the 8th inning off of an RBI single by Adam Dunn and a 2 RBI DB by Adam Kennedy but it wouldn't be enough as the Redsox take this one 7-4.

The Nationals got things going in the 3rd inning with an RBI single by Nigel Morgan making it 1-0 Nationals. In the 4th inning, Kevin Youkilis hit a 2 run HR to give the Redsox the lead at 2-1. In the bottom of the inning, Josh Willingham took the lead right back for the Nationals with a 2 run HR of his own making it a 3-2 game. In the 6th inning, Victor Martinez hit an RBI DB, Kevin Youkilis hit his 2nd 2 run HR of the game, and J.D. Drew hit a sac fly RBI to make it 6-3 Redsox. The Nationals would add a run in the bottom of the 6th with a Josh Willingham RBI DB making it 6-4 Redsox. In the 7th inning the rains came and wouldn't let up ending this game early and with a 6-4 Redsox win.
